All the employers are required to comply with the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) regulations and obtain PF registration on engaging 20 or more employees. All the services regarding provident fund like<a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalraasta.com\/provident-fund-epf-registration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> PF registration<\/a>, PF return filing and payment of PF contribution has been made available online through the unified portal to enhance ease of doing business. In addition, all employee-related services like account transfer, EPF account balance check and claims have been brought under UAN and the Unified Portal. This article focuses on the procedure for enrolment of an employee on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epfindia.gov.in\/site_en\/EPFOUnifiedPortal.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Unified Portal of the Employees Provident Fund<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Universal_Account_Number_UAN\"><\/span><em><strong>Universal Account Number (UAN)<\/strong><\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>UAN is the Universal Account Number to be allotted by EPFO. It is like an umbrella for the multiple member IDs allotted to an individual by different establishments. The motive is to link multiple member identification numbers allotted to a single member under single Universal Account Number. It will help the member to\u00a0view details of all the Member Identification Numbers (Member Id) linked to it. If in case, any member already has Universal account number (UAN) then he\/she is required to provide the same on joining new establishment to enable the employer to in-turn mark the new allotted Member Identification Number (Member ID) to the already allotted Universal Identification Number (UAN).<\/p>\n<p>If an employee wants to access the Unified Portal then a UAN will be required. Earlier, each of the establishment having<a href=\"https:\/\/www.legalraasta.com\/provident-fund-epf-registration\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> PF registration<\/a> used to issue a unique\u00a0ID to the employee for PF purposes leading to many employees having multiple PF. An employee with UAN\u00a0 will have a single identification under provident fund across employers. Therefore, if an employee who is already allotted Universal Account Number (UAN) joins a new establishment, he\/she must use the same UAN to enable the employer to in-turn mark the new allotted Member Identification Number to the already allotted Universal Identification Number (UAN). In addition, the employee KYC details will be mapped against the allotted UAN rather the member ID thereby eliminating the redundancy.<\/p>\n<p>UAN is providing by the EPFO for most contributing members in the following pattern:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>EPF members in respect of whom at least one contribution is received in or after Jan-2014. Automatically, EPFO provides UAN.<\/li>\n<li>The EPF members who are not having UAN &amp; any contribution received in or after Jan-2014 can request EPFO to allot UAN.<\/li>\n<li>All citizen (either EPF member or not) can request for UAN.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Benefits_of_Joining_the_Unified_Portal\"><\/span><em><strong>Benefits of Joining the Unified Portal<\/strong><\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Following are the benefits of joining the Unified Portal and linking UAN with Aadhaar:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"PF_Balance_check\"><\/span><strong>PF Balance check<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Any employee who is registered on the Unified Portal and having a UAN which is linked to a KYC can easily check their PF Balance at any time.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"EPF_Account_Activity\"><\/span><strong>EPF Account Activity<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is a facility for receiving SMS about credits\/debits to their EPF account for the employees and those who are having UAN can also track their EPF account balance using the EPF mobile app or by giving a missed call to 9718397183.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Submit_claims_online\"><\/span><strong>Submit claims online\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those employees who have Aadhaar enabled UAN can submit their claims directly with EPFO. There would be no requirement to go to the employers for claims attestation. Moreover, all the applications for EPFO services can be submitted by the employees online.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Download_UAN_Card\"><\/span><strong>Download UAN Card<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those members who are enrolled on the Unified Portal can themselves download UAN Card. Likewise, the most recent passbook can also be printed at any time on the Unified Portal.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Update_KYC_Details\"><\/span><strong>Update KYC Details<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those employees who are enrolled on the Unified Portal can update their KYC details or mobile number at any time. Moreover, all the employer IDS can also be listed under the UAN on the Unified Portal to consolidate the accounts.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_get_UAN\"><\/span><em><strong>How to get UAN?<\/strong><\/em><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Firstly, an employee must collect UAN after making the first contribution. Once he\/she collects the new UAN, the person can activate online services on the Unified Portal by visiting the member services page. At the portal, provide your requisite KYC details like Aadhaar, Bank Account &amp; PAN along with a list of all previous EPF account numbers to activate Unified Portal services.<\/p>\n<p>When an employee has UAN, he\/she must provide the UAN on joining any new establishment. Besides UAN, the employee must also submit KYC documents to the new employer.
