The GST stands for “Goods & Services Tax”, and is proposed to be a complete indirect tax on the manufacture, sale and use of goods and services at the national level.

  • Its main purpose is to consolidate all indirect taxes into a single tax, excluding customs (excluding SAD) instead of multiple taxes, overcoming the limitations of the existing indirect tax framework, and building efficiency in tax administration.
  • The introduction of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) could be a significant step forward in the field of indirect tax reform in India. By combining large amounts of intermediate and state taxes into a single tax, it can reduce double taxes or double taxation and pave the way for a common national market.
  • From a consumer perspective, the biggest benefit would be to reduce the total tax burden on goods, currently estimated at 16% -18%.
  • In the domestic and international markets, the introduction of GST may also make our products competitive. Studies show that this could boost faster economic growth. Last but not least, this tax, because of its obvious character, will be easier to manage.
  • Taxpayers need to comply with GST in order to be able to monitor system changes on time. Depending on applicable geographies, size and field, the change will be significant and may require functional planning with a timely work plan.

In order to prepare for the implementation of the GST, companies need to understand the development of GST policy and its implications for landscape planning and road map adjustment. We at Legalraasta aim to provide our students with all the information and tools needed to prepare for the new tax regime
