FSSAI  is associated with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. Of India. Its head office is in Delhi. It implements all the regulations according to the law prescribed in FSS ACT, 2006. FSSAI license is required if you’re starting any business related to food, like a bakery, a restaurant etc.

The FSSAI license is also required when the food is required in India and those products are standardised. Standardised goods are those goods the generally don’t need any approval before manufacturing, selling and distributing. The approval procedure was scrapped in response to the Honourable Supreme Court of India. The procedure was regulated under Second 22 of the FSSAI ACT, 2006.

The FSSAI is not even providing any more information or notification about the “food approval” on their official website! Although the guidelines related to the procedure are mentioned there.

So the new emerging and old, both kinds of companies are perplexed about the FSSAI ‘s this action.

The decision to not to approve products anymore was announced on 26th August, 2015 in response to the supreme Court’s order made on 19th August, 2015.

Official authorities say that if FSSAI starts to make any decisions relating to product approval, the decision itself will have to get an approval from the high court.

FSSAI was meant to maintain the standards and guidelines referred by FSSAI. It was to give all the technical facilities and support to the Indian Government if required. To research about the hazardous elements present in food and making sure the imported products are tested in laboratories first in sample forms.

FSSAI creates reliable information to all the consumers, manufacturers, sellers about the safety and standards of food. Moreover creating self-awareness about it in India.

The legality and validity of product approval system were cancelled by Bombay high court in its final judgement on August 1st, 2014. The companies are doing whatever they want because there’s no current law providing any information on what exactly is going to be done by the food approval advisory.

Also, for sanitary standards creating awareness in India was very important. Thus, the establishment of FSSAI was necessary.

An application could be submitted for the approval of the product and should be addressed to the Director(PA).
